venus envy online
We launched the first Venus Envy web site in 1998, shortly after the Halifax store opened. We undertook a major redesign and added a database-driven online catalogue towards the end of 2000, and revised the design and coding again in 2004 and 2006. We continue to upgrade and work on the site for added convenience and security. Our goal is to make this website as user-friendly and secure as possible.
usefulness
We have designed the site and the catalogue to allow easy, intuitive access to everything we offer. The coding behind the scenes has been designed for efficient and speedy operation, and we have kept the graphics to a minumum for quick download times. If you're having trouble with any aspect of the site, please let us know.
accessibility
The site is now close to being fully compliant with the XHTML and CSS web standards, which means that older browsers (by which I mean Netscape and Internet Explorer versions before 5.x) may have problems with the pages—luckily almost no visitors to the site use these obsolete programs any more. This standards-compliant design should allow the site to be useful for more users using a wide variety of client software, including handheld devices and browsers for the blind.
security
The freedom and anonymity that cyberspace provides shouldn't be a source of frustration or anxiety, responses that are far too common with life on the 'net. You can read more about our security and privacy measures elsewhere on this site.If you have questions or comments about the site, please email the web designer:

web designer notes
The site was written and is maintained using UltraEdit (hand-coded with care). I use CorelDraw Graphics Suite 11 to mess around with pictures despite Corel's appalling online customer support. The Key Focus KF Web Server (free!) makes a great test platform, especially equipped with SeliSoft's ActiveHTML (no longer free, sadly, but affordable) for ASP scripting.
I strongly recommend the Mozilla open-source products -- Firebird web browser, Thunderbird email + news client, and Mozilla combination suite -- for all your Internet needs.
There's lots of good ASP and web design advice on the net. Some of the best ASP stuff can be found at 4GuysfromRolla and Cover Your ASP. For web design ideas and resources, check out Web Page Design for Designers and W3 Schools. evolt.org also offers a variety of resources, technical and not, for web design, web application development, and information architecture.
Many thanks to the folks at Automatic Labs for their HiveWare Enkoder form.
Thanks also to DI Management for their VBscript implementation of the Blowfish encryption algorithm (see Cryptography Software Code).
We make use of a few of the amazing Silk icons available here.
