I’m a 25-year-old female thinking about becoming a stripper. I am very comfortable with the idea of nuding up in public (I already do it just for fun), but I am very apprehensive about the logistics of the industry. Are there resources or information on how I can protect myself before I get into the industry, and about how to find work?
Please be in touch with Stella and ask for a copy of their magazine, Constellation (chezstella.org/stella/?q=en/constellation). There is one issue specific to striptease, but I also recommend the most recent one on working conditions. Though Constellation is free to sex workers, I encourage you to make a donation to this amazing organization.
Being comfortable nude is a good start to becoming a stripper, but it is a small detail in the grand scheme of things. There’s a big difference between nuding up for kicks and nuding up for cash. You will be nude with other people who are also being nude to make money. Patrons are there to see you nude, and every so often if your nudeness doesn’t measure up to their expectations, they will be verbally unkind about this fact. So, Nudie, expect to have the comfort you feel in your skin challenged in both good and bad ways.
