To Paris with Herpes

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Tomorrow I leave for Paris for a week long vacation with my girlfriend. I’ve been looking forward to this for a couple of months and am so excited! But today I woke up with the tingly achy feeling that indicates I have a herpes outbreak on the way. It’s not surprising, I get sores every six weeks, or so, and I’ve had a cold forever and I’m busy getting ready to leave, so an outbreak was almost expected. But it sucks. It sucks because I’m going to sit on a plane for a long time and be in pain, the first couple of nights there the discomfort will make it hard to get a good nights sleep and then overall an outbreak puts a damper on my enthusiasm and energy levels. Herpes won’t ruin my trip, not by a long-shot, but it does make me feel kind of sorry for myself that I can’t just go and have fun and not be in pain. Also a fresh outbreak has a big impact on my interest in sex, my bits just don’t feel like a fun place to be when they hurt.  I don’t know about you, but I love vacation sex. No work, no cleaning, little cooking, no dog walking…all the time in the world to laze about and get busy.

All this was getting me down this morning and then I remembered that I had a stash of anti-virals in the back of my drawer. It’s been a really long time, so long that they actually expire this month, so I’m going to take them and hope for the best.  I don’t really take the pills anymore because they can be hard on my body, especially my stomach but this felt like one of those times where it might be worth it.

Either way, I’m going to Paris and it’s going to be amazing!
