Conflict De-escalation Training for Community Organizers & Frontline Workers

This training will explore conflict styles, methods, and power with the hopes of getting folks more comfortable with approaching and navigating conflict in their community based work and interpersonal relationships. It will cover various de-escalation techniques leaving participants with a tool belt of practical skills they can use going forward. This training is open to anyone engaged in community orientated work or who wishes to increase their participation, but feels they would benefit from more training and knowledge sharing in this area. Or maybe you just really want to take this training, which is totally cool, too! There will be lots of time for dialogue and conversation.

Some things we’ll cover:
-how structural power informs our approaches to conflict
-how fear and evasion of conflict affects our community work and relationships
-various conflict modes and styles
-the difference between conflict de-escalation, resolution and mediation
-conflict de-escalation techniques
-why conflict de-escalation and lowering our reliance on the state to handle conflict for us is important in community engaged work

What is Community and Frontline Work?
This can be so many things! Maybe you sit on a collective, work for a community organization, shelter, drop-in, wellness/healing space, etc. Maybe you book/organize events; solidarity events, demos, shows, fundraisers, etc. Maybe you work at a community co-op, work at or run a local business, facilitate or chair meetings. Maybe you currently simply aspire to do more of this type of work.
