This foundational training explores and reflects on how conflict impacts our communities, our relationships and our well being. Participants are introduced to techniques that enable them to sift through and identify what it is they’re experiencing in situations of conflict and how to use that information to minimize escalation. Participants will practice developing their emotional awareness and communication skills.

The main goal of this training is about learning to approach conflict with intention and awareness rather than solely with reaction. These are key conflict management tools for anyone doing community oriented work, but also for any and all relationships.

Some things we’ll cover:
-how structural power informs our approaches and reactions to conflict
-how fear and evasion of conflict affects our personal well being, community work and relationships
-various conflict modes and styles
-escalation minimizing language & behaviour
-how alternative dispute resolution is beneficial to our communities & widens the scope of possibilities leading to resolution
