Love in the Time of Trauma THE SEQUEL: Repairing Relationships - with Kai Cheng Thom

Sold out

Love in the Time of Trauma THE SEQUEL: Repairing Relationships is a workshop designed for queer and activist communities that weaves together spiritual, psychological, and activist knowledge in order to create new ways of repairing intra-community conflicts.  As many of us have experienced, both personal and political disagreements, as well as abuse and violence between us, have the potential to create massive rifts in community bonds. Tone policing, group shaming, and shunning frequently prevent us from repairing these rifts, leading to disillusionment and burnout.  This workshop explores the concepts of individual and collective to trauma to develop a deeper understanding of why activist attempts at creating accountability and restorative/transformative justice fail and how we can strengthen our community bonds in the context of trauma. Participants will engage in group discussion and practice exercises aimed at fostering our skills of self-awareness, emotional expression, and relationship repair.  Participants are asked to share the process of creating a space for respectful learning.  Note: This workshop builds upon material explored in the workshop Love in the Time of Trauma Part 1, but it is not necessary to have attended this workshop before participating in Repairing Relationships.

***Please note - this workshop is located at the Khyber Centre for the Arts, NOT Venus Envy. The main entry is up 2-steps from the sidewalk on Hollis St, however there is the mall entrance further down the block outside on the same street that will be staffed by a volunteer to direct folks and open the door. There is an all genders wheelchair accessible washroom. To create a more accessible space for folks with scent sensitivities, we ask that guests refrain from wearing scented products please! If anyone would like sign language interpretation to be provided at this event, please contact Christine at and she will make that happen!

The workshop will be 10$ or PWYC, nobody will be turned away due to lack of funds.
