Venus Envy Ottawa

Anyone who identifies as LGBTTQ2S+

Queer & Trans Yoga

Free! Donations gratefully accepted for Manajiwin, the body-positive and LGBTTQ+ safe fitness space, offered by Kind and the Odawa Native Friendship Centre
Facilitated by Grounded Turtle Yoga

This class welcomes those who are new to yoga, and those who are more experienced. We have one single-stall bathroom where people are welcome to change before or after class.

What to bring: Clothes that are comfortable to move in, a water bottle, and a yoga mat if you have one. We’ll also have yoga mats available if you don't have your own.

The yoga class will last one hour, with time for tea and hanging out afterwards.

From Katherine, the facilitator: I am excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with Venus Envy in holding a yoga class for members of the LGBTQ community. There are all kinds of folks who do not feel comfortable in a yoga studio and I am hoping that by offering this class we will be making this practice more accessible to the community.

The practice of Yoga is a spiritual path that dates back thousands of years and is a complex belief system that encompasses many components beyond just the physical practice. I acknowledge that there is a complex history of oppression and appropriation, especially with the ongoing Westernization of Yoga. I am offering this yoga class for the community from the position of a humble student of Yoga and see it as an honour to participate in the practice.

I hope that this space will provide an opportunity for connection – with ourselves, with others, and/or with our communities. We aim to make this an anti-racist, body-positive, trans-inclusive and beginner-friendly space, and welcome feedback and discussion about ways to make this practice more accessible.
