What Does Femme Feel Like? // a facilitated discussion by & for femmes

Overview

Dearest Femmes,

You are welcomed to a facilitated conversation and roundtable around femme identity within queer spaces. We deeply love, value, and appreciate femmes and wanted to create a space of peer learning, self reflection, femme abundance, and loving celebration.

We will examine questions such as:

  • Is femme a political identity for you? Why or why not?
  • What does your femme manifest/create?
  • Do you see your work (personal, paid, community based) as femme?
  • How does your femme intersect/interact with other parts of you and your identity?

What do we mean when we say femme? We welcome and hold the multiplicity of what femme is and welcome anyone that identifies as a femme. We welcome folks of any gender(s) who self-identify as femme, all folks who identify as femmes are welcome. Your femme is valid and brilliant. We aim to decentre/push back against the cisgaze and cissexist, white supremacist standards of beauty and worth. Two Spirit, trans and non-binary voices will be prioritized.

This space was created and imagined to host and center queer femme brilliance, magic, and peer-to-peer learning. We are all experts of our own experiences. We are dedicated to holding the multifaceted parts of personal and political identities such as race, disability, class, and trauma and will work together to hold a space of learning, complexity, accountability, and care.

Please bring your favourite piece of femme writing/poetry/art to share and any crafty things/something to occupy hands (if you would like).

We'll provide snacks, so please send any food needs, requests, allergies, etc. to Christine at christine@venusenvy.ca.
